Start with the dirty-water tank

If your Little Green Max Pet runs but leaves water behind, check the dirty tank, lid and tool before assuming the motor has failed. A full tank, poor fit or blocked cleaning head can affect pickup.

These steps cover the corded Max Pet 3860. SmartMix, Mini, Pet Pro and cordless machines have separate instructions; check your label first.

Turn off and unplug before removing tanks, taking off the tool or washing parts. Keep the electrical base out of water. If the cord is damaged, the base leaks or the machine smells burnt, stop using it and contact BISSELL.

Empty and refit the tank

  1. Remove and empty the dirty-water tank. Do not let liquid pass its MAX line.
  2. Clear debris from the tank seating area. Rinse the tank and lid, and clear debris around the float so it can move freely.
  3. Check for a cracked tank or damaged seal. Refit the lid without a gap, then seat the tank firmly until it clicks.

Do not force or disable the float. If the tank or seal is damaged, ask for the correct replacement rather than trying to hold it together for another cleaning session.

Check the tool and your cleaning pass

With the machine unplugged, remove the hand tool and clean debris from its removable clear lens and opening. Refit the lens and tool fully. A loose connection or blocked head can interrupt pickup.

For a cleaning test, secure both tanks, dry your hands and reconnect the machine. Use a small area that the material’s care instructions allow you to wet-clean. Set the stain tool to SPRAY for normal cleaning.

Tilt the tool forward so its suction channel meets the fabric, then draw it back slowly. After applying solution, make a pass with the trigger released to recover moisture. Look through the clear nozzle for liquid moving toward the dirty tank.

If the motor’s pitch changes and pickup drops during use, switch off and check whether the dirty tank needs emptying. Do not keep spraying the same patch to test suction; that adds more liquid to recover.

If pickup is still poor

BISSELL’s suction troubleshooting separates suction at the base, suction at the hose and pickup through the fitted tool. Those checks help tell a machine problem from a blockage or tool problem. Follow its test sequence; do not open the motor housing or push a sharp object through the hose.

If the tool has suction but does not spray, that is a different fault. Repeating tank or suction checks will not necessarily fix the spray system. Tell support whether the machine has power, whether liquid sprays and where pickup stops.

Have the model number ready, along with any visible hose, tank or tool damage. Contact BISSELL if the simple checks do not restore pickup. A replacement tool may be appropriate in some cases, but do not buy one just because the carpet still feels damp.

Once pickup is working, follow our after-use cleaning routine before storage. It explains the Max Pet’s CLEANOUT setting and the tank cleanup that still needs doing separately.
